340B Report Promotes William Newton to Editor-in-Chief, Shannon Young to Managing Editor

340B Report announced today that William Newton has been promoted to editor-in-chief and Shannon Young has been promoted to managing editor, strengthening the news service’s editorial leadership as it continues to grow as the indispensable source of independent, comprehensive news coverage of the federal 340B drug pricing program.

Newton, who joined 340B Report in June 2023 and most recently served as an associate editor and senior writer, has helped lead the service’s reporting on major 340B developments, including the ongoing debate over potentially shifting 340B to a rebate model; the surge of state-level 340B activity; the growing role of litigation; and dark money efforts seeking to influence the program. He also developed and launched multiple resources that track state 340B activity, contract pharmacy restrictions and manufacturer data requirements to help keep subscribers informed about key developments across the 340B landscape.

Young, who joined 340B Report in April 2024 and also most recently served as an associate editor and senior writer, has leveraged her deep experience and knowledge of federal and state politics to help lead the publication’s coverage on key 340B-related congressional investigations, hearings and legislation. She’s worked with Newton to launch trackers to help subscribers follow key congressional 340B bills in the 118th and 119th Congresses.

Newton and Young also co-authored a 340B Report scoop on then Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator nominee Mehmet Oz’s ties to a 340B services company doing business with hospitals, which the Washington Post later covered and credited 340B Report with first reporting.

They also helped launch 340B Report’s Inside 340B Report podcast with 340B Report Publisher and CEO Ted Slafsky in September 2024. It’s one of two podcasts 340B Report offers—along with 340B Leaders Upfront—to inform listeners about the latest developments in the 340B landscape and the industry’s leaders.

“Will and Shannon have played major roles in strengthening 340B Report’s valuable journalism during a pivotal time for the 340B program and its stakeholders,” said Slafsky. “I’m excited for the incredible work that they will do ahead as our subscriber base continues to grow and interest in the 340B program soars.”

The promotions come as 340B Report continues to invest in its editorial team and services. Luke Zarzecki, who recently joined as 340B Report’s national correspondent, has helped expand 340B Report’s news coverage and has already produced valuable scoops for readers.

340B Report’s continued growth has been supported by its top-notch business and operations team. The team, led by Chief Operating Officer Diane Slafsky, includes Director of Subscription Services Reshma Eggleston, Communications Director Julie DeMaio, Anna Mangum, the host of our 340B Leaders Upfront podcast, and Sales Director Diego Ortiz. They have worked to strengthen 340B Report’s subscription, newsletter and sponsorship services.

Ted Slafsky credited his strong staff and loyal subscription base for turning 340B Report into an essential and powerful resource in less than six years.

“When we started, COVID-19 had just begun and we had to quickly adapt our game plan,” he said. “We scrapped our plans to charge for the subscription during the worst of the pandemic and that loyalty has paid off.”
