340B INDUSTRY LEADER SPOTLIGHT

Kirsty Gutierrez, Director of Client Success, Ravin Consultants

Kirsty Gutierrez

Q: Where did you grow up?

I was born in the small town of Banbury, England, and excitedly moved to Florida as a child, where I quickly realized that Florida is not all Disney World!  I grew up in Tallahassee, Florida, until I moved to the beautiful city of Tampa for college.

Q: Where did you go to college/graduate school?

I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology, with a focus in Public Health, from the University of South Florida. While working for a rapidly growing HIV/LGBTQ+ health and wellness organization, I realized my passion for implementing and optimizing innovative healthcare services for underserved and vulnerable communities and decided to pursue post-graduate education. I earned my Masters in Healthcare Administration degree from the University of Central Florida in 2019.

Q: What are your favorites?

Food: Ice Cream – specifically anything with caramel!

Movie: The Little Mermaid has always been my favorite classic movie, so I’m thrilled that the new live-action version is now my daughter’s favorite as well!

Musicians: Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars and Whitney Houston

Destination: England will always be my favorite place to visit, not just because it is my homeland, but because of its beautiful land, rich history and comforting energy. Outside of England, the most incredible country that I have visited so far is Colombia.

Q: What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of working in the 340B space, I enjoy spending quality time with my two children and close-knit family and friends—beach trips are always a welcome plan! I am always excited for live events, especially music concerts and side-splitting comedy shows. Since I can never seem to find the time to read a good book, I recently developed a new-found interest in indulging in audiobooks.

Q: What kind of work does your company do in 340B and what makes it stand out?

Ravin Consultants specializes in delivering all-encompassing 340B consulting solutions to healthcare organizations nationwide. Each team member approaches their role with a shared passion for assisting covered entities in establishing and upholding compliant and impactful 340B programs, while also striving to optimize these initiatives for the sake of expanding accessible, quality healthcare to their communities.

Beyond our strong emphasis on creating and upholding robust compliance programs, our team offers a wealth of experience in the 340B landscape, including regulatory compliance, executive community clinic management, licensed pharmacy expertise, and financial acumen. Ravin Consultants’ diversity gives us a unique edge in understanding the intricacies of the field from different angles and allows us to provide tailored solutions to each organization.

Q: Why did you choose to work in the 340B space?

I wouldn’t exactly say that I consciously chose the 340B field—but it sure did find me. I spent more than a decade at a dynamic non-profit community-based organization, and witnessed the escalating demand for inclusive, comprehensive, and affordable healthcare—especially within LGBTQ+ and marginalized communities. The 340B drug discount program arose as a pivotal means to generate essential revenue for addressing not only our patients’ medical needs, but also their social and supportive needs as well. When I joined the Ravin Consultants’ 340B consulting team, I gained a new passion for helping other organizations meet the unique needs of their own communities.

Q: What do you feel is your most significant contribution to the 340B world or to a 340B customer/client?

At my core, I’m rooted in social sciences and community-based service. My motivation stems from a desire to create a concrete impact on the lives of those who require support, and I’ve consistently found my passion within the realm of healthcare. Drawing from my healthcare administration background and in-depth 340B expertise, I am equipped to provide our clients not only with 340B regulatory guidance but also the ability to identify opportunities for improving their clinical services, actively engaging in their implementation. I possess a skill for comprehending the bigger picture and navigating the complexities of the process for 340B and beyond, empowering me to significantly enhance patient care.

Q: What advice do you have for a young professional who has recently launched a career in the 340B space?

Take advantage of the various 340B publications and training opportunities that are offered by organizations like 340B Report! It’s not only important to know the current regulations and guidelines for 340B, but to be knowledgeable of potential shifts that could affect the future. Staying abreast of upcoming and proposed changes in legislation that may not appear to be directly related to 340B, such as changes in Medicaid or fluctuations in HIV funding, will allow you to stay ahead of the game in adjusting for the domino effect impact to the 340B program.
