340B INDUSTRY LEADER SPOTLIGHT

Joel Wright, President of Pharmacy Services, Maxor National Pharmacy Services

Joel Wright

Q: Where did you grow up?

I grew up in a small farm town named Caro in Eastern Michigan.  My uncle ran two drug stores in town, while my mother owned the Home Interior store, and my father worked at the Sugar Factory.

Q: Where did you go to college?

I graduated from Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI.

Q: What are your favorites?

Food: Barbecue…mostly that I cook myself

Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean (The first one, of course)

Musicians: Pink Floyd, The Lumineers, and Lynyrd Skynyrd

Destination:  Any island beach at sunset

Q: What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy sailing, fishing, hiking and traveling.

Q: What kind of work does your company do in 340B and what makes it stand out?

Maxor helps covered entities, hospitals and health systems, maximize their pharmacy’s value through a tech-enabled pharmacy care platform purpose-built to help clients regain control of patient care and the pharmacy premium dollar.

Q: Why did you choose to work in the 340B space?

I was drawn to the 340B space because of the mission aspect. All of our clients are mission based, and it’s Maxor’s job to help them achieve their mission.

Q: What do you feel is your most significant contribution to the 340B world or to a 340B customer/client?

Pharmacy is complicated, and manufacturers aren’t making it easy for the contract pharmacy networks. Maxor helps covered entities build and expand their health ecosystem by bringing services in-house and employing and optimizing the assets they have. Maxor does this through a model that’s fair and durable—something that contradicts many other players in this market.

Q: What advice do you have for a young professional who has recently launched a career in the 340B space?

For someone just starting out, I recommend starting with knowing your “why,” and then find your space. To help companies that are supporting the most vulnerable subset of patients is rewarding. To be able to simplify the complex while maintaining compliance is a critical skill set and overall, it adds incredible value to the system.
