U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra on Friday extended the COVID-19 national public health emergency (PHE) for a seventh 90-day period.
Becerra’s Oct. 15 declaration means the PHE will last until Jan. 13, 2022, unless terminated early. Becerra’s predecessor at HHS, Alex Azar, declared the first COVID-19 PHE on Jan. 31, 2020, retroactive to Jan. 27, 2020.
