Q: Where did you grow up?
I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. When I was two my parents moved to the US. I mostly grew up in Phoenix, AZ.
Q: Where did you go to college/graduate school?
I went to undergrad at Johns Hopkins and Medical School at Duke.
Q: What are your favorites?
Food: Pizza
Movie: 300
Musicians: Natalie Merchant, U2, REM
Destination: San Diego
Q: What do you like to do outside of work?
Trail running, cycling, and spending time with my family and dogs.
Q: What kind of work does your company do in 340B and what makes it stand out?
In short, we help grow 340B savings by helping covered entities to include referral prescriptions in their 340B program. We use machine learning to help map referrals to downstream prescriptions, and then obtain the encounter notes from the specialty provider and return those notes to the referring organization. I believe we’re unique because our company started in the referral management space, so we perfected the art of “closing the loop” between the primary care provider and the referred-to office. I’m also very proud that we have always been a compliance-first company: We are the only solution in our space to have such rigorous compliance standards and procedures which has led our clients through a growing number of successful audits, meaning all of our claims to date have no audit findings. It’s part of the reason we have become the go-to service provider for referral capture.
Q: Why did you choose to work in the 340B space?
We love our customers! We think this is a much under-appreciated part of healthcare. We are proud that we support the organizations that are on the front line of healthcare.
Q: What do you feel is your most significant contribution to the 340B world or to a 340B customer/client?
Our clients, by definition, serve access challenged and generally underserved populations. We’ve brought these organizations over $75M in savings since we launched our 340B product four years ago. We love hearing stories of how the additional funding allows them to expand service offerings, make new hires, and so on. We’re really making a difference.
Q: What advice do you have for a young professional who has recently launched a career in the 340B space?
Audit first. From day one, we have been very careful to make sure everything that we do can be supported from a technology, legal, regulatory, and ultimately, audit standpoint. It was a big investment, but so far we have had multiple audits with no findings. It is a lot of extra work….but well worth it!
