Q: Where did you grow up?
I grew up in rural southeast Alabama in the small town of Luverne.
Q: Where did you go to college/graduate school?
I attended Troy University for both my Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree and both are in accounting. I also have my CPA license.
Q: What are your favorites?
Food: BBQ
Movie: The Shawshank Redemption
Musicians: Eric Church, Morgan Wallen, Tom MacDonald
Destination: Anywhere in the Caribbean
Q: What do you like to do outside of work?
My wife and I have four girls who are heavily involved in travel sports, so I mainly spend my time taking children to activities. When free of work and parental duties, I enjoy running, CrossFit, golf, and travel.
Q: What kind of work does your company do in 340B and what makes it stand out?
CaptureRx is a pioneer in the 340B space, providing Third-Party Administrative services for covered entities and pharmacy. The company stands out as the creator of the 340B TPA space and has introduced numerous industry-first solutions over its 25+ years of operations (17 years in 340B).
Q: Why did you choose to work in the 340B space?
Like most people in 340B, I think it was an accident. I was the CFO of a large FQHC in Alabama when I really understood the impact 340B savings could have on our patients. At the time, contract pharmacy was still something many CEs were not maximizing. I learned all I could about it and maximized my program to the extent we were subsidizing medications for almost all of our 20,000 uninsured patients while also using 340B savings to hire more providers, contract with specialists to come on site to see patients, and provide transportation to those without.
Q: What do you feel is your most significant contribution to the 340B world or to a 340B customer/client?
During my time as a CFO for CEs, I put together an aggressive sliding fee cash card program with my independent contract pharmacy partners for my uninsured and underinsured patients. In a large service area with 22 locations, the independent pharmacies that participated in the cash card program took care of over 20,000 patients and 150,000 prescriptions bought at the lowest price possible thanks to the 340B pricing manufacturers must offer for qualified patients. This is the intent of the program, and I pushed hard to make sure every patient knew about the program and where to access their prescriptions at the lowest price. All of us in the industry know that without 340B pricing, the uninsured would hardly ever be able to fill that needed Rx.
Q: What advice do you have for a young professional who has recently launched a legal career in the 340B space?
I said this a few years ago and still feel the same way: build your network! Befriend other CEs and vendors. Get to know everyone you can in the 340B space. Collaboration with peers in our niche market leads to innovative ideas being shared and tested.
