President Biden last Friday nominated career civil servant Christi Grimm to serve as Inspector General of the U.S. Health and Human Services Department (HHS).
The HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) has issued numerous reports on the 340B program on topics including contract pharmacy arrangements, state efforts to prevent duplicate 340B discounts and Medicaid rebates, Medicare Part B payments for 340B-purchased drugs, and drug manufacturer overcharges for covered outpatient drugs.
Grimm currently serves as Acting HHS Inspector General. She is the Principal Deputy Inspector General, and began her career with OIG in 1999. She previously worked at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The appointment fills another key leadership position at HHS. The Food and Drug Administration commissioner and the Health Resources and Services Administration administrator permanent spots remain open.
