President Biden has nominated Melanie Egorin, a veteran Democratic congressional health care adviser, to serve as U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Assistant Secretary for Legislation.
If confirmed, Egorin would be a top deputy to Xavier Becerra, whose nomination to be HHS Secretary could be voted on by the full Senate this week. A procedural vote on the nomination last week indicated that Becerra will be confirmed.
Egorin currently is Deputy Staff Director for the U.S. House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee. She previously was a Senior Analyst at the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) focusing on a range of public payer health policy issues.
