The first 340B covered entity registration period of the year will be Jan. 1-18, 2022, for an effective start date of April 1, 2022.
Eligible hospitals, health centers, clinics, and their child sites and contract pharmacies registered during the period can begin participating in the 340B program on April 1, 2022.
First quarter registration normally runs from Jan. 1 through 15. Under U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) policy, if the 15th falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or federal holiday, the deadline is extended to the next business day. Jan. 15, 2022, is a Saturday. In response to a question about the policy, HRSA said yesterday it is extending the deadline by three days not one, to Jan. 18, because Jan. 17 is the Martin Luther King. Jr. federal holiday.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic’s early days, HRSA has been letting some entities, upon request and review, enroll immediately in 340B. Every Friday, HRSA publishes a supplemental Medicaid exclusion file listing entities approved for immediate enrollment. The link to it, updated weekly, is on the HRSA Office of Pharmacy Affairs homepage, under the heading COVID-19 Resources.
